Hyak Rain Crust lap for lunch

January 1, 2009 | By tnt
Happy New Year Snowrtroopers . Snow Report for Thurs. Jan. 1st 2009, 29 deg calm wind out of the East, 20 " new since yesterday at 5 am, giving Hyak a 58" base. weather experts calling for 8" - 16" of snow today, however they are also calling for a rise of sl to 5,000' this afternoon. 3:38PM 1/1/9 -I wanted to ride the lifts today pounding away @ New Years champagne that mother nature provided not the Night clubs / pubs. I -90 never opened (and still isn't open), so Lifts never opened. A Hyak lap was in need for Trooper(my dog). Geared up w/ salmon fishing clothing and a straw hat and started out. Ran into Scott and Jenny and climbed up Rampart Ridge to Sissy's then to the ski patrol shack. De-skinned and Scott and Jenny headed down the only Cat track on Hyak's fresh snow since last groomed early last night. I wanted to try my luck on the Face of Hyak or the real name Grayson's. The Snow now had a 3/8" rain crust now, but not fully locked up, turns were a challange but still able to link them all the way down to the bottom of the Keechules chair where a bunch of Powder hounds(who prefer lift serve than hiking) were building a kicker for their first time.

Live to Ski Another Day!
